| Mr. Higgins'
name really is Jimmy "Bruce"
Higgins. Bruce Higgins was his grandfather who lived
in Earth, Texas at Star Route 1. It is coincidental
that Mr. Higgins is a Black Belt in Martial Arts like Bruce
Lee and he also works on Commercial Space Development.
Mr. Higgins was born on Valentine's
Day in Las Cruses, New Mexico. The only one in a
family of 7 (5 kids) that was not born in Texas.
Mr. Higgins has 4 sisters and parents who live in Austin,
Texas. It was in Austin that he started his
martial arts training.
Mr.
Higgins has been Web Developer/Internet Consultant for the
Nasdaq
Stock Market and currently owns an E-Commerce development
company, SiteTeks, Inc. Mr.
Higgins is a licensed Virginia realtor specializing in single
family homes and foreclosures. He is also webmaster
for his real estate broker, Thomas
& Thomas Realtors. At
night, he teaches Tukong Moosul as well as, "SmartForce Training"
classes on Saturdays or computer classes (beginning computer,
Web Site Design and Construction, programming, Internet
introduction, Online Stock & Options Investing) at The
Academy.
Mr. Higgins started his martial
arts training in Tae Kwon Do (TKD). Due to his physical
abilities and hard practice, he was promoted after only
3 days to Yellow Belt. One week later, he was involved in
an embarrassing gymnastics accident that stopped his training
due to a shattered wrist, hyper-extended elbow and dislocated
shoulder. Doctors wanted to fuse his wrist bones because
of the extent of the bone damage, but he said no.
Once all the pins had been removed, Mr. Higgins started
rehab. Almost a year later, Mr. Higgins began training with
one of the original 6 Tukong Grandmasters, Won Ik Yi who
had moved to Austin after leaving the South Korean Army. He
continued to re-hab his injuries to almost 100% recovery.
While
attending the University of Texas at Austin, Mr. Higgins
trained hard in martial arts (TKMS) and was unprecedentedly
double and quadruple promoted at times in the Shaolin Martial
Arts school because of his diligence and hard practice,
as well as, his support of the Tukong school. Mr.
Higgins was instrumental in helping the school become one
of the largest martial arts schools in the nation. Grandmaster
Won Ik Yi trained him privately as they worked closely many
days in to the early morning hours to formulate and develop
what later became the Tukong Moosul Federation (TKMSF).
Mr. Higgins was trained for
and awarded the position of "White Tiger Instructor"
after only 14 months to teach the very best of the Tukong
School. The White Tiger students, studying with Mr.
Higgins, all double promoted and won gold in many tournaments.
"It was less of my teaching abilities and more
their motivation and hard work," Mr. Higgins says.
After training very hard to
try out for the 1988 U.S. Olympic Team, Mr. Higgins was
told he would not be able to even compete in the trials
because he was not a Black Belt in the proper TKD association
(WTF). It seemed America's best athletes would also have
to have already paid many thousands of dollars to certain
associations and organizations to have the opportunity to
even try to get a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team. Mr.
Higgins later left the Austin Tukong school to work on his
passion of commercial space development in Dallas.
Mr. Higgins met Tukong Grandmaster
In Ki Kim when Grandmaster Kim came to Austin to visit with
Tukong Grandmaster Yi. Grandmaster Kim and Mr. Higgins
became very close as Grandmaster Kim taught Mr. Higgins
even more Tukong training at black belt levels. Mr. Higgins
has been training with Grandmaster Kim since 1987. Grandmaster
In Ki Kim has certified Mr. Higgins to 5th Dan in Tukong
Moosul since training him for the past 12 years. Mr. Higgins
will be tested for his 6th Dan (Master Level) in 2001, one
generation (20 years) since he started his martial arts
training. Mr. Higgins has worked closely with Grandmaster
In Ki Kim to establish the Tukong Moosul Association
(TKMSA)
Mr. Higgins currently lives
in Alexandria, Virginia where he teaches Tukong classes
and is a Co-Founder of the Tukong Martial Arts Academy
and the TKMSA. Mr.
Higgins is looking forward to developing the Academies
as other Masters and black belts from other styles
come to be re-trained to teach Tukong Moosul and learn computers
(the modern martial artists weapon of choice). His personal
goal is to make a difference in developing leaders for America's
future that have character and high standards of excellence.
"Leaders start out as children and young adults.
Tukong and computers will give them the confidence and skills
to be the leaders our country needs for the future."
