Grandmaster In Ki Kim was born
in South Korea in 1958, where he began to learn Tae Kwon Do
(TKD) as a child. He excelled and at the sport and became
a Black Belt by age 11. During his High School competition
years, Grandmaster Kim won the Korean National Tae Kwon Do Championships
by beating the very best fighters in South Korea. He went
on to train many successful champions in TKD while running a
very large school.
While in the South Korean Army,
Grandmaster Kim won several championships again by defeating
the most skilled fighters in the military. His skill and ability
were noticed by the Tu Kong Unit commander, General Chang. Master
In Ki Kim was chosen to help design the most effective fighting
program for modern warfare.
Just
as armies no longer march out onto an open field, kneel, fire
their weapons, then reload without protection, modern warfare
needed a new revision of the old ancient fighting arts.
Grandmaster Kim, having proven his fighting abilities was one
of the original 6 Masters chosen to design a modern, up-to-date,
martial arts training program for the modern day soldier of
the Special Combat Unit. He later became the Senior/Head Instructor
teaching other instructors how to teach the new fighting style
now called TuKong MooSul (TKMS).
When
Grandmaster Kim came to America, he was asked to help train
dedicated Tae Kwon Do students. His students won the U.S.
and Canadian National Tae Kwon Do Championships.
Grandmaster Kim currently lives
in Northern Virginia with his wife and three young sons.
He is the Co-Founder of the Tukong Martial Arts Academy. The
Academy's Tukong Moosul program incorporates the latest technique
enhancements by Grandmaster Kim while being suited specifically
for American students who train with music and wear shoes during
class. This is a very untraditional training approach and has
caused a lot of controversy. "You need to train in what
you will fight in," says Grandmaster Kim. "Here
in America and the rest of the world, few people walk around
barefoot. So just like the Tukong soldiers, they (American
Tukong students) must learn to train in what they will fight
in, if they ever have to use their art." Grandmaster Kim
is also the Program Director for a new Fast Track Martial
Arts training program called, "SmartForce
Training"
Grandmaster
Kim also gives special Master Seminars in New
Advanced Hapkido, which he has enhanced and refined
over the last 20 years. He continues to improve all techniques
for effectiveness in today's world. His innovations have
received the highest praise from many World Champion Masters.
He continues to revise and improve techniques while he
works on writing a book about martial arts techniques and the
philosophy of training in martial arts.
