In the Shaolin
Temple system, a student had to pass train through "18
Rooms" to reach the Shaolin Master level. Every
room taught different knowledge; from different animal fighting
styles and weapons to different healing arts and natural
science. The TKMSA Belt Progression System is based on this
path. Grandmaster Kim
considered the traditional belt systems, the original Yin
/ Yang Uniform philosophy, nature and the Shaolin Do of
progression to create the TKMSA Belt Progression System.

There are 9 colors
to Black Belt. This table shows the TKMSA color belt
progression system.

White light in nature
can be separated into individual colors of Red,
Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue and Purple. Traditionally,
in martial arts Red is reserved for High achievement
before Instructor level.
So if you look at nature's
light then you get all the TKMSA Belt colors to
Purple starting from White.
Each level teaches
different skills or a more advanced level.
Also in nature, colors mix to create spectacular
effects. Blue mixes with Red to make Purple.
Just as you consolidate
your skills and bring them all together for your
final testing, all the knowledge learned will come
together in one Brown belt.
Pum Dan is a time to
learn how to teach those skills you have consolidated
and gradually change from student to preparing to
become an instructor.

Black Belt is
the control and consolidation of all the colors of natures
light. White is the reflection of all colors where
Black is the reflection of no colors. The source of the
Black is controlling and is Master of all the colors. Now
you are the Instructor.
Of
course each color has its own meaning. Nature and
ancient martial arts philosophy dictates the TKMSA Color
Belt Progression System.
As
you progress through the Tukong system, you learn Black
belt qualifications for Tae Kwon Do, Judo, and Hapkido as
well as many other techniques from many other styles. Currently,
only the Tae Kwon Do first dan (black belt) is required
before a student receives a Tukong Moosul black belt.
